Distributed Cognitions (Salomon, 1993)
Mingfong recommends this as an "all you need to know about Distributed Cognition" book -- or at least a good place to start.It's got Michael Cole, Roy D. Pea, Moll, Gardner, Ann Brown, etc. in it, so it's got to be chock full of DC goodness.

As you can imagine, not all authors in this anthology ask the same question and they don't necessarily agree upon each other in terms of the notion of distributed cognition.
Read the Pea chapter first since it did a great job on the idea of distributed cognition and the way he eleborates the idea is useful for a game designer.
